What a game. While we were disappointed that we couldn’t see our Detroit Lions take on the league championship, Super Bowl LVIII between the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers was a match to remember. All eyes were on Taylor Swift and her boyfriend Travis and Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, whose team wrestled to take home its second consecutive Super Bowl and dynasty status. On the 49ers side, quarterback Brock Purdy — only twenty-four years old and chosen last at the 2022 NFL Draft — had found himself on football’s biggest stage and pressured to prove that he could lead his team to the very top. Usher’s halftime show featuring Alicia Keys and three decades of R&B and pop hits would keep everyone on their feet.
The Chiefs trailed behind by ten points for most of the first half. The game pushed to overtime, for the second time in Super Bowl history. In those final moments, 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey made several aggressive runs that totaled 160 yards. But Travis Kelce exploded in the fourth quarter. And Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes conceived a brilliant 14-play, 75-yard touchdown. The Kansas City team were crowned back-to-back Super Bowl champions.
Taylor Swift was not the only celebrity spotted on the stadium video boards—Leonardo DiCaprio, Justin Bieber, Jeff Goldblum, Martha Stewart, Jay-Z, and Paul Rudd were among the list at the star-studded event.
