Detroit Lions lose 34-31 to 49ers, ends record season. To all Detroiters, it’s a glorious defeat! The 2023 season will long be on our minds. The Detroit Lions lost 34-31 to the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship Game. In the first half, the Lions ran for 148 yards, 7 yards per carry, and seized a 24-7 lead. In the second half we faltered—with costly drops, sluggish offense, and questionable calls by Coach Dan Campbell on fourth down. So goes dreams of Super Bowl LVIII.
Yet the Lions just had their best season in a generation. Following the game, Dan Campbell admits the pain of the loss, but he says he’s proud of what his team has accomplished and “this should be the ultimate motivation to move forward.” The coach tells his players it will be twice as hard to make it back here next year, but linebacker and team captain Alex Anzalone seems undaunted: “I think we definitely turned the table of how we’re perceived as a team and even competing in this game I think that we let the world know, let the league know, what we’re about going forward.”
